What do you think is the top resolution made? The number 1 resolution made on New Years is to lose weight, with staying fit and healthy being #6 on the list. In fact, about 38% of all New Years resolutions made revolve around weight loss/health related goals. Studies also suggest that people who explicitly make resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don't.
So, in light of this time of year, we've assembled some statistics for Central Pennsylvania that are specifically related to physical fitness and personal health.
In Central Pennsylvania, almost 57% of the population say that they frequently follow a regular exercise routine. That represents a little over 1 million individuals in the region. Only about 15.0% of the population say that they do not follow a regular exercise program.
The most popular place for Central Pennsylvanians to carry out their exercise programs is at home. About 28.7% exercise at home two or more times per week. At their homes, they are more likely to own weight lifting equipment or treadmills than any other type of exercise equipment. In the last year, Central Pennsylvanians would have spent an estimated $63.3 million on equipment for their home gyms.
About 20% of Central Pennsylvanians exercise outside of their homes two or more times per week at either a club or another gym-related facility. The most popular exercise among residents in the region is walking, followed by jogging/running and weight lifting.
