This landmark property, commonly known as the Golden Swan Tavern, is a two-story brick office building on the southeast corner of Continental Square, the epicenter of the downtown central business district. Recent renovations lend modern conveniences, while preserving the historic charm. The first floor of the building contains approximately 3,880 SF with a large reception area, private offices, and a conference area. The second floor contains approximately 2,956 SF with private offices, corner offices overlooking Continental Square, conference room, and support areas. During the American Revolution, the building that stood on this site was used as a depository for rifles and flints. In the then adjacent York County Courthouse, the nascent United States Congress met from September 30, 1777, to June 27, 1778, as York, PA served as the nation's capital. The Articles of Confederation were ratified during this period as well. The Golden Swan Tavern was constructed in 1807 and purportedly Lafayette stayed there in 1825. The property later was used as a dry goods store. Most recently, the property was fully renovated and served as commercial lending offices for a bank branch.
