ROCK Employee Spotlight: Travis Wilkins, Property Manager
WHAT LED YOU TO ROCK? I have always had an interest in solving problems and building relationships. In my past life of owning and operating two businesses, I learned that the quicker I solved a problem, the quicker I could move onto the next, since they are never ending. While Dave Bode was selling my wife’s and my farm a few years ago, we joked about being a property manager and I sarcastically said, give me a call when you need another one. Well, he did, and it was the best move I have ever made. Coming from the subcontractor world, this allows me to work with people I have built relationships with in the past and many new ones as well. I also thoroughly enjoy learning how things work and what makes them function. Building relationships is a key part of this business and one that I enjoy very much.
WHAT IS THE MOST SATISFYING ASPECT OF BEING A PROPERTY MANAGER? Working with all the owners, tenants and subcontractors. When you enjoy what you do, it’s not really work.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORKING AT ROCK? I am surrounded by people who are really good at what they do and have no problems lending a hand when you need it. With an open office layout, we are almost forced to collaborate with others, which is what makes us such a strong presence in the commercial real estate community.
WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF PROFESSIONAL ADVICE YOU HAVE RECEIVED? It’s not bigness we seek, its greatness. Greatness is enduring, bigness is imposing. You don’t need to be the biggest to be the best.
